Fashion Tips 4 Petites!

Keys to elongating your silhouette:
  • Horizontal lines cut off the figure and make us appear wider and shorter than we are.  Avoid tops and bottoms that are in high contrast colors (a white top and black pants, for example).  It is better to choose similar colors to create an elongated look.
  • Vertical lines such as pleats, v-necklines, open jackets and slacks create an elongated silhouette.
  • The same color (monochromatic) from head to toe will also create a continuous, lengthwise flow.  Blend similar colored shoes and hose to appear taller.
  • Avoid tops that hit below mid-thigh unless paired with a skirt that falls above the knee.
Accessories - Dos and Don'ts
  • Do wear a gently pointed toe.  It's more lengthening than a rounded or square toe.
  • Don't wear t-straps, bows or heavy buckles on your shoes - it creates a wide, horizontal effect.
  • Do wear your skirt hems long enough to cover your boots.  Otherwise you create a broken line instead of a slenderizing vertical line.
  • Don't wear flats unless paired with long narrow pants or a short skirt.  Heels of at least 1 1/2 inches are a better choice.
